A chlorine gas canister at Aufi district's water purification station exploded, poisoning dozens of Hilla residents who inhaled the gas. An informed source at the province said the casualties included children, women and the elderly who lived near the station. They were sent to hospital for treatment. The source did not comment on why the canister exploded.
