Lumani: Sistani Supports Arab League's Missions
Al-Bayan is issued four times weekly by prime minister Nuri al-Maliki's Islamic Da'wa Party.
The Arab League's envoy to Baghdad, Muktar Lumani, said the reconciliation conference was not a goal in itself, but a way to (bring together rival groups) to agree on strategies that could be put in to practice. In a press conference after his meeting with the top Shia cleric Ali al-Sistani, Lumani said the commitment to those strategies would aid the political and security situation. The Arab League wanted the conference to serve as a step toward a healthy Iraq, free from problems, he said. Lumani added Sistani praised the Arab League's efforts to hold the conference (this month) and said Sistani fully understood its mission. Lumani reported that the conference would be attended by different religious, political and tribal bodies, as well as civil society organizations.
