2011 election fallout: Women should do more to succeed in future
Nigerian women need to review their strategies and work harder to attain better result in future elections.
The suggestion came from a post-election roundtable that reviewed the poor performance of female politicians in the recent general elections.
The Lagos roundtable was organized by the Media Desk of the South-west zone of the 2011 Elections Media Center Project.
The two panellists, Tive Denedo and Nihinlola Aluko-Olokun, said women should not be discouraged but adopt effective measures to attain 35% affirmative action in governance through future elections.
Present at the roundtable were three female candidates who had mixed fortunes in the elections; Tijani Adeyeye of the Labour Party and Oluwakemi Olugbile of National Transformation Party (NTP) lost the Lagos Assembly elections. But Adebimpe Akinsola got elected on the
platform of Action Congress of Nigeria.
