Clerics in the northern province of Balkh on December 10 demanded the execution of Hooqiq-e-Zan editor Ali Muhaqiq Nasab. He is accused by some clerics of publishing blasphemous articles in his women’s rights magazine. He was detained on October 1 by security officials and on October 22 sentenced to two years in jail by provincial court of Kabul. Seventy-nine clerics had gathered in the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif to demand his execution.
