Afghans Come Shopping for More Electricity

Afghanistan’s minister for energy and water Muhammad Ismail Hana is expected to visit Dushanbe in late July to agree an increase in Tajik electricity supplies. Tajikistan currently sells around 200,000 kilowatt-hours a day to its neighbour at two US cents per kWh.

This spring, the two countries agreed to lay new electricity transmission lines through northern Afghanistan to export power to Iran.
