Due to threats to their lives and lack of stability, many Arab families in southern and central Iraq have come to cities in the Kurdistan region. Colonel Herish Khalid, chief of the residency directorate in Hawler (Erbil,) told Kurdistani Nwe, "So far around 1,500 families and 2,000 individuals, from central Iraq and the city of Mosul have come to Hawler." In addition, 282 families have entered Sulaimaniyah (from throughout Iraq) and more than 4,000 labourers also work in the city.
