Police arrested 16 people on charges of illegally excavating archaeological treasures in the central province of Ghazni on April 4, provincial police chief Abdul Rahman Sarjang said. Sarjang said the smugglers were trying to smuggle artefacts from the Nawar district to foreign destinations. He added that police have been deployed at archaeological sites in Ghazni to prevent illegal digs.
