Defense ministry spokesman Mohammed al-Askari denied that three Iraqi brigades deployed in Baghdad to counter the threat of civil war are under the command of the peshmerga, saying the Iraqi army controls them. Their deployment is part of a long-term plan to have Iraqi forces controlling security in the capital with multi-national forces securing neighbouring areas.
