Biljana Plavsic, former Bosnian Serb president and a member of the oligarchy that guided Republika Srpska through the war, appears for a sentencing hearing on December 16,17 and 18.
It’s seen as a boost for the tribunal, not just because she is such a senior figure, but also because she has admitted her guilt - and, consequently, confirmed that widespread war crimes were committed.
Finally, the tribunal is pleased that she has also, in making the admission, declared the court a valid institution, in sharp contrast to another former president currently on trial at The Hague.
Big media interest is anticipated, and the tribunal press office has advised journalists to book their place at the trial - details are at The Hague website un.org/icty.
