Alija Izetbegovic, the wartime Bosnian president who died this week, had been under investigation for war crimes, the Tribunal prosecution confirmed on Wednesday, October 22.
"Izetbegovic was a suspect," said prosecution spokeswoman Florence Hartmann. "But the fact that he died means all proceedings have been stopped."
The prosecutor's office would give no further details.
MLADIC NOT FOUND
Serbian police raided an undisclosed address hoping to catch war crimes fugitive Ratko Mladic but failed to find him, said officials.
No details of the raid were given, but Serbian prime minister Zoran Zivkovic said the police, who had been acting on a tip-off, would continue their hunt for the former Bosnian Serb commander, who has been indicted by the war crimes tribunal.
RAMBO FACES TRIAL
War crimes suspect Vladimir Kovacevic, nicknamed "Rambo", arrived in The Hague on Thursday, October 23.
The 43-year-old former Yugoslav army officer is the last of three men accused of causing civilian deaths by besieging the Croatian city of Dubrovnik in 1991. He was arrested by Serb police in a village outside Belgrade last month.
Another indictee - former admiral Miodrag Jokic - has pleaded guilty and the third - former Lieutenant General Pavle Strugar - has already surrendered to the court and has been freed, pending trial.
