China to Invest More in Tajik Energy

Despite noises to the contrary, Tajikistan looks set to vie for even more Chinese money to build a string of hydroelectric power stations along the Zerafshan river. Members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation will meet in Astana in mid-March to talk energy, and China looks set to dominate the show as far as Tajikistan is concerned. The Tajiks accepted a Chinese offer of two million US dollars in investment to build the Yavan power plant last month, and they are preparing to offer more contracts.
