EDITORIAL: President's trip highlights need for cooperative spirit

Afghan president Hamed Karzai spent November 29 meeting students, elders and government officials from Kandahar and neighbouring provinces. The president has been to Kandahar before, but this trip was quite different, in that it was his first visit to the regions since the historic parliamentary and provincial elections. After the elections, the country has entered a new chapter. In order to ensure security and combat terrorism and narcotics, everyone from the president down to the average Afghan must extend a hand to each other and cooperate to accomplish these goals. The president’s Kandahar trip is a significant step towards these goals, demonstrating that as national leader he wants to keep a close eye on people's problems and demands.
