Three members of a family were killed and two others sustained injuries when a war-era mortar shell exploded in the central province of Kapisa late on February 24, said officials. Provincial crime branch chief Ghulam Farooq said the blast was caused by an old mortar round swept down by flood waters from the nearby mountains. The device went off when someone hit it, said the official. The injured have been taken to a hospital in Panjshir province, said Farooq Mirzayee Khan, father of the dead family members.
