Al-Ittihad is published daily by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

Oil Minister Husein al-Shahrestani has outlined plans to establish a supreme authority for dealing with oil and gas in the country. Oil ministry spokesman Asim Jihad said the new federal council would be chaired by Prime Minister Noori al-Maliki or his deputy Barham Salih, and would include members from the ministries of oil and finance and the central bank of Iraq along with representatives of regional governments. The issue of oil is the biggest source of disagreement between the central government and that of the Kurdistan region.
