Germany to have military base in Uzbekistan

Cheragh is an independent daily run by the Development and Democracy Association.

Under an agreement reached between Uzbekistan and Germany recently, the Germany military is to have the use of a military base in the Uzbek town of Termez on the border with Afghanistan. Agreement on the base was reached after talks in Tashkent between the German deputy prime minister and Uzbek president Islam Karimov. The base will be used to provide logistical support to German troops in Afghanistan. The agreement follows the withdrawal of US forces from the Khanabad airbase in Uzbekistan.
