Thirty-seven opponents of the government joined the peace and reconciliation process in the southeastern province of Paktia on November 19. According to provincial police Chief Sulaiman Khil, 25 were linked to the Taleban while the remaining 12 belonged to the Hizb-e-Islami faction. The governor of Paktia, Hakim Taniwal, said every Afghan must play an active role in the reconstruction of the country.
