Armed rebels torched a secondary school for boys in the Girishk district of the southern province of Helmand on January 28 night, officials said. According to a provincial education official, the school building and all its contents including desks and books were destroyed in the fire. The provincial police chief confirmed the report, saying an investigation had been launched but no arrests made so far. The incident came the night after three schools were burned down in the Nawa district of the same province.
