Iraqi Minister of Health: First Bird Flu Case Recorded in Kurdistan

In a joint press conference, the Iraqi minister of health and the minister of health in Iraqi Kurdistan region declared that the first case of bird flu was recorded in Iraq and Kurdistan. Abdul Mutalib Ali Muhammad, Iraqi minister of health, said, "WHO (World Health Organisation) via its regional laboratory in the Middle East, has recorded a H5N1 case. The (disease) was (discovered) in an (autopsy) of a girl in Rania (northeast of Sulaimaniyah) whose name is Shangeen Abdul-Qadir. The Kurdish minister of health said that his ministry has a plan to confront the disease. "We ask people to commit to the instructions we have published on how to protect themselves."
