Major Arab tribes in Kirkuk have declared a war on terror, and al-Qaeda in particular, in the wake of escalating violence in the city which have left 100 people dead. A meeting attended by 150 tribal leaders produced an agreement to assist the security. The head of the Arab assembly in Kirkuk, Sheikh Abdul Rahman al-Asi, said that the leaders were against targeting police and innocent civilians and against sectarian and ethnic war. Another participant, Sheikh Hassan al-Abdallah, said it was agreed that every tribe should within 15 days come up with information about “the corrupt, the blasphemers, and the criminals” among its own members.
