Robert Simmons, the NATO Secretary General’s special representative for Central Asia, will arrive in Tajikistan on May 22-24.

According to the Tajik foreign ministry, Simmons will meet President Imomali Rahmon, foreign minister Hamrohon Zarifi and Security Council secretary Amirkul Azimov to discuss the situation in Afghanistan and cooperation within the framework of NATO’s Partnership for Peace programme.

Experts say Simmons is likely to discuss the possibility of strengthening the French air force contingent at Dushanbe airport, which currently consists of several combat and transport planes, and around servicemen.
