Judging by the number of Tajikistan residents travelling abroad to attend courses, the accepted view seems to be that foreign is best when it comes to management training.
As reporter Anton Rodin discovered, everyone is doing it – as well as the private sector, government institutions are sending staff to study management abroad, or else they bring in foreign trainers.
Many say this revolution is essential, as management practices in Tajikistan are all too often redolent of the Soviet Union.
However, Georgy Koshlakov, who teaches management at the Tajikistan’s national university, is less keen on sending would-be managers abroad. The most important thing is learning how to think rather than acquiring specific knowledge, he says, and work placements offer a more practical alternative to courses abroad.
