Jafar al-Moosawi, head of the prosecution board of the central criminal court, has said that a new Arab judge would oversee the Anfal case, in which Saddam is accused of crimes against humanity. He did not reveal the name of the new judge for security reasons adding that the choice of an Arab judge was because the case related to the crimes of the former regime against Kurds. The Anfal campaign led the deaths of 182,000 Kurdish people and the destruction of 4,000 Kurdish villages in 1988.
