Opinion: Iraqis' Human Rights

Iraqis suffered greatly under decades of dictatorship and oppression, which is why they were happy with the changes that occurred on April 9, 2003. (After Saddam Hussein was overthrown,) we have an Iraq based on laws, not tyranny. Media outlets, international organisations and human rights organisations paid considerable attention to the reports of torture and malnutrition of detainees at the al-Jadiriya jail, which was discovered by the Americans. The interior minister denied all of these accusations in his press conference. In the new Iraq, there is no room for the absence of law. There must be just law and legislation. The Iraqi street wanted the parliament to have a say in this scandal. This issue must not, by any means, be used by parliamentary candidates hoping to influence voters. The best thing would be for Iraq to allow international organisations to participate in investigating this issue.
