Rolf Ekeus, the OSCE’s High Commissioner for National Minorities, will visit Tajikistan on May 14-15 to discuss the rights of ethnic minorities with the country’s leadership.

Tajikistan – where minority groups account for 20 per cent of the population - has an official Alliance of Minorities which represents 12 different ethnic groups. Nevertheless, NBCentralAsia observers say the perception that there are no ethnic problems in Tajikistan is inaccurate, and the government should pay more attention to these issues.
