Parliament Speaker and the Reconciliation Conference

Parliament speaker Mahmood al-Mishhadani discussed with the permanent Arab League envoy in Baghdad, ambassador Mukhtar Lemani, preparations for the reconciliation conference in Baghdad and ways to make the conference a success. In a statement, Mishhadani said the conference must be held soon and that Iraqis from all different (religious, ethnic and political) stripes need to attend. He maintained that the conference will be a success depending on the seriousness of the participants and the issues to be debated. He added that the success of the conference would mark a success for all of Iraq. Mishhadani praised the efforts of the Arab League (which sponsored the conference in February) to narrow the gaps between the Iraqi political parties by establishing an agenda to improve the situation in the country.
