Presidential Election: Voter Education Will Lead to Improvement
INEC has been urged to raise the tempo of voter-education ahead of Saturday’s Presidential election and the April 26 Governorship and States Assembly elections.
Coordinator of the Justice Development and Peace Commission of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna, the Reverend Father Peter Audu said such education was necessary to avoid errors that caused some votes to be invalidated last Saturday.
Among the errors were thumb-printing for more than one political party and thumb-printing on the edges or outside the box located in front of the party logos.
Father Audu however said although such minor hitches did not undermine the credibility of the April 9 exercise, they need to be corrected for improved outcome of subsequent elections.
Father Audu added that with increased public awareness more people could also be encouraged to vote in the crucial April 16 presidential election.
