Clark commanded the NATO bombing campaign against Yugoslavia which brought an end to the Kosovo crisis in 1999. He also gave evidence during the prosecution case about the accused’s relationship with Serbs in Bosnia in the early Nineties.
Milosevic’s lawyers have argued that restrictions placed on Clark’s evidence at the time prevented him from being questioned about matters relevant to Milosevic’s defence.
Heather Schlidge, acting legal counsellor of the US embassy, said the arguments presented by Milosevic’s lawyers were unconvincing and that the matter should have been raised nearer the time.
The prosecution has also formally opposed further testimony from Clark.
