Armed men burned down a boys’secondary school in the Lashkargah district of the southern province of Helmand on January 13. Provincial police chief Abdul Rahman confirmed the incident, saying the arsonists entered the school at 1:00am on January 13 night and set the school on fire after tying up the guards. He added that police have arrested two suspects in connection with the case who are now under interrogation. The southern provinces of the country have witnessed the burning of several schools in recent weeks. President Karzai condemned the act as that of enemies of Afghanistan.
