Tens of thousands of Iraqi families from southern and central provinces have fled to safer parts of the country, like Iraqi Kurdistan. Their displacement is mostly the consequence of the wave of sectarian violence, assassinations and kidnappings that have been spreading across Baghdad and other unstable provinces. Abdulsatar Nawroz, a spokesman for the migration and displacement ministry, said large numbers of uprooted families were being sheltered by relatives. He said the ministry was planning to establish several refugee camps in Mosul, Misan and Ziqar provinces.
