A street in the Wazir Akbar Khan area of Kabul was named after Queen Suraya, the wife of King Amanullah Khan [reigned 1919-29], to mark international women’s day. Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Sayed Makhdum Raheen and Kabul mayor Ghulam Sakhi Noorzad cut the ribbon at a ceremony on March 8. The minister said, “Today we are naming one of the best streets of Kabul after a famous Afghan woman.”
