Afghan security forces arrested two suspected suicide bombers wearing vests packed with explosives in the southern province of Kandahar on January 25, officials said. Provincial police said they had received intelligence about imminent suicide attacks and had set up a checkpoint on a road about 25 kilometres south of the city. “We stopped two guys ridding a motorbike, pointed our guns at them and ordered them not to move,” said Massoud Khan, a provincial police commander. “They were wearing vests full of explosives.” Security forces have not established the men’s identity, Massoud said. The incident came only hours after a grenade was thrown at the Indian consulate in Kandahar.
