Afghan police shot and killed a Taleban rebel during an armed clash late on February 11 in the Qalat district of the southern province of Zabul, officials said. Provincial governor spokesman Gulab Shah Alikhel confirmed the incident had taken place. He said the clash erupted when three suspected Taleban fighters attacked police in the provincial capital. One of the Taleban fighters, Hashmat Awrang, was killed and the other two escaped. Alikhel said the dead fighter had been involved in several robberies.
