Three people have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in the northern provinces of Afghanistan, officials said. The individuals involved had just returned from neighbouring Iran and Pakistan, according to the officials. Doctor Anwarulhaq Murad, deputy head of the Sar-e-Pul public health department, said one of those infected had died, while the other two were supposed to be sent to Kabul for treatment but their relatives prevented medical staff from taking them.
