Murder in Kherson

Kherson National Police investigators informed Russian privates Ihor Turk, 48, and 38-year-old Denys Chernov of the suspicion in absentia of cruel treatment of the civilian population in combination with intentional murder (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 438 of the criminal code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, in May 2023, suspects - both from the 126th Separate Coastal Defense Brigade (military unit 12676) - entered the home of a resident of the occupied village of Nova Zburyivka, Kherson region. The suspects, who were allegedly drunk, accused the 64-year-old of having a son serving  in the armed forces of Ukraine. They beat the man and after he tried to escape and hide, tshot and killed him.

Suspicion Issued for Torture

National Police of Ukraine investigators informed 28-year-old Yan Zanevskyi, an employee of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation of a suspicion in absentia for violating the laws and customs of war and cruel treatment of the civilian population (part 2 of article 28, part 1 of article 438 of the criminal code of Ukraine). His exact position and military rank have not yet been established.

According to the investigation, from at least October 2022, Zanevskyi was the so-called FSB curator in the Vasylivsky district of the Zaporizhia region. The suspect, together with his accomplices, detained and tortured civilians to obtain information about the armed forces of Ukraine and pro-Ukrainian residents of the occupied territories.

One civilian woman was allegedly detained for more than five months, and beaten, tortured and threatened with sexual violence.

Torture in Kharkiv Oblast: an Identified Russian Guardsman

Investigators of the Kharkiv police informed a 30-year-old Russian citizen of a suspicion in absentia against him for the brutal treatment of the civilian population based on a prior conspiracy by a group of persons (part 2 of article 28, part 1 of article 438 of the criminal code of Ukraine).

Bohdan Shamshutdinov is a policeman from the Zyryanin riot police operative company of the Rosgvardiya department of the Komi Republic of the Russian Federation, which participated in the occupation of the Kupyansk district of Kharkiv region.

In March 2022, according to the investigation, the suspect and his accomplices imprisoned people and brought them to a torture chamber set up in the basement of the Orkhidea hotel in the village of Hrushivka, Kupyansk district. Civilians were abused there and forced to provide information about the Ukrainian military, participants in the war in the east of Ukraine and law enforcement officers. Shamshutdinov is suspected of participating in the kidnapping and torture of a 42-year-old man who was beaten, stripped  and prevented from sleeping.
