Police on January 29 arrested two men with 500 kilograms of hashish in Kabul, officials said. The police chief of Kabul’s 17th district, Colonel Mohammad Farooq Asas, said the contraband, concealed in carpets loaded on a truck, was recovered in the Khair Khana neighbourhood. Police arrested the truck driver and the alleged smuggler. Asas said the vehicle had a Parwan registration number, and that the men were trying to smuggle the drugs into Kabul from the northern province of Mazar-e-Sharif. He added that the detainees were now being questioned and would be transferred to Kabul’s central police headquarters.
