Two Politicians Face Charges
Syria Media Report, 29-May-2008
Two members of parliament have been stripped of their immunity and may be charged with criminal offences, according to a report from the pro-government website Cham Press.
The May 22 report quoted speaker Mahmoud Al-Abrash as announcing that Muhammed Zaher Dabol and Amer al-Homsi were stripped of their parliamentary immunity by a majority vote in the legislature.
Homsi is alleged to have issued bad cheques while Dabol has been accused of forgery.
The ministry of justice had demanded that both members lose their rights to immunity so that it could launch proceedings against them.
