Tariq al-Hashimy, the Iraqi vice president, has described Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki’s decision to lift checkpoints in Shia-dominated Sadir city as "sudden" and "unilateral", and in the interest of "terrorists and saboteurs". He asked the prime minister to reverse his decision, saying that the security situation in Iraq in general and in Baghdad in particular was the responsibility of Political Council for National Security.
