Amidst escalating violence and continuous power cuts, more than five million Iraqi students prepared to take their final exams for the primary, intermediate and secondary school levels. Education ministry sources said police forces were deployed near schools in Iraq's larger cities to guard the students, while armed guards employed for schools were seen in front of the schools. Family members brought their children to school for fear of the unstable security situation.
