Protesters in Basra have staged a number of demonstrations demanding better public services and an end to the power and fuel crises. Police have asked people to remain at home because of fears that armed clashes could break out at any time. In a separate development, members of the Bani Asad tribe occupied the headquarters of the governorate after some unidentified armed groups killed one of their tribal leaders Ghazi al-Khayoon.
