The majority of members of parliament in the Wolesi Jirga, or lower house of parliament, have called on the Afghan cabinet to make provision for fair salaries for government employees in the new budget that takes effect on March 21. The salaries paid to government employees currently range between 40 and 700 US dollars a month for junior-grade staff up to departmental directors. However, some officials receive up to 3,000 dollars a month. The deputies also called on the government not to send officials on unnecessary foreign trips.
