Apas Jumagulov will step down as Kyrgyz ambassador to the Russian Federation on July 1.

After serving as prime minister twice during the Nineties, he was made ambassador to Germany in 1998 and did a lot to attract German businesses to Kyrgyzstan.

Jumagulov took up his post in Moscow one month after President Askar Akaev was ousted in a popular uprising in March 2005, an event which prompted a large exodus of Russian-speakers from Kyrgyzstan.

Kyrgyzstan’s current envoy to the Eurasian Economic Community, Ishengul Boljurova, is seen as a possible successor.
