The higher education ministry has condemned the violence directed at teaching staff and urged the government to protect academic institutions. A source at the ministry said that three law lecturers and one student at the al-Nahrain University were abducted by armed groups Sunday afternoon in the al-Kadhimiya area. Since the fall of the regime in 2003 'till the end of 2006, more than 185 lecturers have been killed, 142 arrested, 52 abducted.
