The government of Republika Srpska in Bosnia is to donate a large amount of surplus weapons to Afghanistan, according to reports from the entity’s capital Banja Luka. The arms on offer include 4,500 machine-guns, 400 artillery pieces, and one million 7.62-millimetre calibre bullets, left over as surplus after defence cuts in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A Bosnian Serb government statement said the donation had been approved by Paddy Ashdown, the international community’s High Representative in Bosnia.
