Member of parliament Akram Tarzi has said Iraq’s Turkoman community must not be excluded from the political process, and must be fairly represented in the new government. Democracy did not mean differentiating between large and small ethnic groups, he said, accusing the government of ignoring the fact that the Turkoman are Iraq’s third largest community after the Arabs and Kurds. He noted that Turkoman were part of most of the various political blocs, and represented a significant part of the populations of at least seven provinces. He asked the prime minister not to marginalise the Turkoman or deprive them or their role in building a free and democratic Iraq.
