US-led Coalition forces on November 5 installed a new radar system worth 4.5 million US dollars at Kabul International Airport, officials said. Engineer Nematullah Ehsan Javid, the airport’s head, said that the system can monitor airspace 50 nautical miles east and west of its location, and 25 nautical miles north and south, adding that it provides additional safety for flights in and out of the airport. According to an official from ISAF’s air units, the radar system is a temporary one, and will be replaced by a larger system in three years.
