NATO-led peacekeeping forces have recently seized 360 kilograms of opium in the southern province of Kandahar, officials said on February 1. The Afghan interior ministry said the opium has been handed over to the provincial counter-narcotics department. No one has been arrested in connection with the seizure. According to another report, police, with the cooperation of local residents, destroyed 50 acres of poppies in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar on February 1.
