Two British subjects and one Indian national were sentenced to two-year jail terms for illegal possession of arms on December 7, while another person accused, an American, was acquitted. The four were tried by Chief Justice Ansarullah Mawlavizada, who found the three guilty and handed down the sentences. British nationals Peter Eaton and Michael Shaw, and Indian national Naveen Joshi were detained when Afghan police, with the help of intelligence agencies, raided a Kabul guest house in October. This is the first conviction of foreign nationals for six months.
