Tens of people were arrested and twenty injured in demonstrations in the Sulaimaniya province towns of Kifri, Chamchamal, Shorish and Darbandikhan. The protests were in response to shortages of fuel and electricity and alleged corruption. The largest gatherings are said to have taken place in Chamchamal and Gramyan. The violence was sparked when large numbers of the security, police and civil defence forces took to the streets.
