Jasim Mohammed Jaafar, the minister for youth and sport, announced security would be tightened at soccer stadiums following recent explosions. Bombs exploded on August 2 at a soccer field in the Amil district of western Baghdad killing nine young people. Earlier, a mortar landed on a pitch in the city’s Abu Dshir residential area, killing three children. The coach of the national team has also resigned following threats.
