US and Iraqi forces raided death squad hideouts in east Baghdad on July 23. A US military statement said the two military operations targeted individuals suspected of being involved in death squads and sectarian violence. The press release also said the first operation targeted two suspects. Eight people were arrested, two Iraqi hostages were released and an Iraqi soldier was wounded, but the statement didn't say whether the two suspects were arrested during the raid. According to the statement, the second operation took place in northwest Baghdad and targeted a suspect, but also it didn't say whether he was captured.
